Aardappelzetmeel als bouwsteen voor groene chemie

Rodenburg Groep is een familiebedrijf dat al sinds de jaren ‘40 producten maakt uit afvalstromen van de aardappelindustrie. Tot op heden gebruikt het bedrijf nog altijd voornamelijk zetmeel uit aardappelen als materialenbron voor haar producten. Waar Rodenburg oorspronkelijk haar producten voornamelijk als veevoer verkocht, is de focus in de afgelopen 20 jaar komen te liggen op de ontwikkeling en de productie van bio-based polymeren alsook platformmoleculen.

Birdt ontwikkelt een platform voor alternatieve transdiagnostische benadering voor ggz-problematieken gebaseerd op het netwerkmodel.

Towards a circular future with raw materials from paper sludge

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is a versatile and crucial raw material. The global market volume is nearly 10 billion kg per year. Calcium carbonate is widely used in various applications, such as paper, carpets, ceramics, glass, toothpaste, and medicines. At the end of their life cycle, these products often end up as waste in landfills or are incinerated. This not only results in the loss of the material but also releases a significant amount of CO2 that is present in the calcium carbonate. There is great potential for adopting a circular approach to this valuable substance.

The National Coalition for Sustainable Digitization

On October 18th 2022, a coalition of more than 70 organizations presented the "Manifest Duurzame Digitalisering” (Sustainable Digitization Manifesto) to the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate in the context of the ‘Nationale Coalitie Duurzame Digitalisering’ (NCDD - National Coalition for Sustainable Digitization). The Manifesto calls for an approach in which business communities, governments, knowledge institutions and citizens work closely together to lead digitization in the Netherlands in a sustainable way.

A relief for patients in Africa

Recently, due to the covid crisis, the medical procedure of intubation has been in the news a lot. Intubation is the insertion of a breathing tube (endotracheal tube) through the mouth, in order to connect patients who are unable to breathe independently to breathing equipment. However, safe intubation is not available to everyone in the world.
