JPI Urban Europe call Sustainable and Liveable Cities and Urban Areas announced

JPI Urban Europe and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) together organise the pilot call Sustainable and Liveable Cities and Urban Areas. The launch of joint call will be January 31, 2018. The registration deadline is April 12, 2018. NWO will participate for the Netherlands. The total budget available on European side is approximately € 9.35 million.

In the call three thematic themes will be addressed: a) Reduce the adverse environmental impact of cities, paying special attention to the quality of air, water and soil, and municipal and other waste management; b) Access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing, transportation and basic services; and c) Integrated policies towards inclusion, resource efficiency, mitigation and adaptation to climate change and resilience to disasters. These themes are the basis for the call topics:

  • Climate change and new urban economies;
  • Transformation of energy systems and strengthen urban circular economies;
  • Urban public administration and services innovation; and
  • Urban data management.

Besides NWO the following European funding agencies will participate in the call: Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), Austria, Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (F.R.S.-FNRS), Belgium, Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR), France, Ministry of Education and Science (IZM), Latvia, The Research Council of Norway (RCN), Norway, National Science Centre (NCN), Poland, Swedish Energy Agency (SWEA), Sweden and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), United Kingdom.

 

Researchers from Chinese and European universities, research institutes, research and technology organisations (including municipal research institutes), cities and city planning departments, as well as European companies may apply.
