Fifth International Workshop on Metadata and Semantics for Agriculture, Food and Environment, Cádiz, Spain

Event date:
2012-11-28 The Fifth International Workshop on Metadata and Semantics for Agriculture, Food and Environment will be held from 28 to 30 November 2012 in Cádiz, Spain.

There is a large spectrum of information flowing from the international agriculture sector. Some of this information focus on generic agriculture and food safety; while other focus on sub-disciplines such as nutrition, animal and plant health. Moreover, such information often differs in its nature, being distributed through images or news announcements for instance. For this very reason, there is not a single search engine that can effectively retrieve a comprehensive set of the resources.

As the current web architecture does not allow integration of similar data from different sources, researchers are exploring the usage of semantic web and related technologies that can be used across the food and agriculture supply chain to facilitate the exchange of information and enable the creation of additional services for farmers, transporters and processors of food, retailers and final consumers, in effect the whole supply chain.

The event aims to bring together researchers and practitioners that are working on agricultural, food-related and environmental knowledge production, organization, and exchange from a semantic web perspective.
