JPI Water call 2018 Closing the Water Cycle Gap open for applications

NWO participates, as part of the international activities in the field of earth and life sciences, in the Water JPI related ERA-net Cofund WaterWorks2017. This is a European joint call on the topic of improving sustainable water resources management (Closing the Water Cycle Gap). Dutch researchers can participate as part of international consortia. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is April 24, 2018. The budget of NWO is € 870,000. Funding is up to € 250,000.

Applications are handled by the joint call secretariat of Water JPI Joint Call.

Launched in 2010, the Joint Programming Initiative Water challenges for a changing world, the Water JPI, tackles the ambitious challenge of achieving sustainable water systems for a sustainable economy in Europe and abroad. The Water JPI aims to contribute to a reduction of fragmentation of efforts by Member States and mobilisation of skills, knowledge and resources, with a view to strengthening Europe's leadership and competitiveness on water research and innovation.

No single European country can address this challenge by itself, due to the magnitude of the needed operations and to the geographical variation of the water problems. Responding to the grand challenge requires a joint multi-disciplinary approach, since outstanding economic, ecological, technological and societal challenges are to be addressed.

Reflecting the need for multidisciplinary approaches, both NWO and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) encourage applicants to combine approaches from exact/technical sciences and social sciences / humanities in order to arrive at comprehensive solutions. For IenW it is of utmost importance that projects are relevant for national water policy. Applicants are advised to contact Egon Ariëns, programme manager Delta-approach Water quality and fresh water at the IenW, +31 (0)6 52 470 746, egon.ariens@minienm.nl.
