NWO awards three new projects awarded in Open Programme ALW

The division of Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) of NWO has funded three new projects with a grant from the Open Programme. The Open Programme wants to be a breeding ground for innovation and talent. Proposals are not related to a theme or ambition. The programme aims to promote innovative scientific research of a high quality across the entire breadth of the earth and life sciences.

Applications can be submitted at any time. The budget is € 8 million per year.

The awarded projects are the following:
• Why sex? Testing the benefits of recombination with an antibiotic-resistance enzyme -
Prof. dr. J.A.G.M. de Visser, WUR;
• How a reproductive parasite turns its host asexual -
Prof. dr. L.W. Beukeboom, RUG;
• Neural decisions under uncertainty -
Dr. J.F.M. Jehee, RU/FC Donders.
