Four projects awarded in NWO Open Programme ALW

The division of Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) of NWO has funded four new projects with a grant from the Open Programme. NWO did not announce the amount of applications that were submitted. The Open Programme wants to be a breeding ground for innovation and talent. Proposals are not related to a theme or ambition. The programme aims to promote innovative scientific research of a high quality across the entire breadth of the earth and life sciences.

The funded projects are the following:

• A novel role for ethylene in conferring anoxia tolerance: mechanism and significance - Prof.dr. L.A.C.J. Voesenek (UU);
• How to put a brake on fat: investigation of a novel mechanism of regulation of intracellular fat breakdown - Prof.dr. S. Kersten (WUR);
• Hormonal disobedience in plant cell division control - Prof.dr. D. Weijers (WUR);
• Identification and characterization of proteins involved in coordinating the function of focal adhesions and hemidesmosomes in promoting stable keratinocyte adhesion - Dr. A. Sonnenberg (NKI).

Applications can be submitted at any time. The budget is € 8 million per year. Click here for more information about the awarded projects.
