New NICHE call for Kenya published

Nuffic has published a new NICHE call for letter of intent (LOI) to help enhance the performance of the TVET education system in Kenya. Deadline for submitting applications is April 18, 2017. The budget of the call NICHE-KEN-283 is € 1,300,000. The TVET-system in Kenya needs improvement to provide the economy with skilled workers and give entrepreneurial spirit an upswing. This project will assist the National Authority for TVET (TVETA) to renew the TVET system.

The project will provide TVETA (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority) with the capability to ensure that Kenya has an adequate number of TVET institutions that are centrally registered and accredited and well distributed throughout Kenya. Those institutions will offer accredited competency-based, market-driven and gender-sensitive curricula and deliver graduates who meet the qualifications set in the National Qualifications Framework.

The Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE) is a Netherlands-funded development cooperation programme aimed at sustainable strengthening of higher education and technical and vocation education and training (TVET) capacity in partner countries, thus contributing to economic development and poverty reduction. The programme focuses on the countries and policy priorities identified in the Dutch bilateral cooperation programme. In line with the current development policy of the Netherlands NICHE focuses on four policy priorities:

  • Water;
  • Food security;
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR);
  • Security and the rule of Law.
