Call Partnership NWO-CCC published - Impact of kinetics on intestinal degradation of carbohydrates (€ 500,000)

The division Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) of NWO published the call 'Impact of kinetics on intestinal degradation of carbohydrates', topic of the NWO-CCC Partnership Programme. Deadline for submitting preproposals is April 16, 2015. The programme wants to stimulate effective collaboration between academia and industry on the role of carbohydrates in human and animal health. Projects will be incorporated in the public-private partnership of the Carbohydrate Competence Center (CCC) and NWO.

The aim of the NWO-CCC Partnership Programme is to develop in-depth knowledge on the fermentation kinetics of carbohydrates, in particular the degradation and modification of oligosaccharides, throughout the entire digestive tract of humans (specifically infants & elderly) and of production animals (such as pigs). This should allow modelling of the degradation of carbohydrates and correlation of their effects with microbiota modulation, metabolite generation and gene expression of the host.

The budget available is € 2,700,000. Funding is up to € 500,000 and can be applied for by associate, assistant and full professors or researchers with a comparable position that hold an appointment at a Dutch university or a research institute recognised by NWO. The participating industries, Agrifirm, AVEBE, DSM, FrieslandCampina and Sensus, are CCC members and will co-fund this call. Deadline for submitting full proposals is July 23, 2015.
