Alzheimer's - Alzheimer's Research UK grants 2018 (£ 1,000,000)

The Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) invites applications for different grant schemes. Deadline for submitting proposals is October 3 and November 14, 2018. ARUK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity specialising in finding preventions, causes, treatments and a cure for dementia. ARUK has a large number of different grant schemes through which researchers can apply for funding. Funding is between £ 20,000 and £ 1,000,000.

Researchers can apply for:

  • Preparatory Clinical Research Fellowship: funding for salary at Specialty Registrar level or equivalent university scales and a contribution toward research and travel costs plus up to £ 20,000 a year. The fellowships are designed for clinicians who are planning a career in academic medicine. The Fellowships last one year during which the Fellows are expected to acquire the research skills and experience to apply for full Clinical Research Fellowships;
  • Target Validation Pathfinder Grant: up to one year. Funding is up to £ 50,000 for staff salaries, equipment, animals, running costs, or any combinations of these;
  • Network Support: the duration is one year. Funding is up to £ 30,000 to cover staff salaries, equipment, animals, running costs, or any combinations of these;
  • Equipment: provides funds for scientific equipment (flexibly defined). Funding is upwards of £ 10,000 to a maximum of £ 100,000;
  • Sabbaticals/Secondments: for tenure researchers who wish to enrich their research programmes and establish collaborations. Funding is up to £ 50,000 and can include staff salaries, equipment, animals, running costs, or any combinations of these;
  • Global Clinical Trials Fund: supports clinical trials that have potential to be of benefit to dementia patients. An upper limit of £ 1,000,000 is set for each application as the total Alzheimer's Research UK contribution. Applicants should be aware that they are competing for limited funds;
  • Scientific Conference grants: provide funding to underwrite the costs of a scientific conference. This scheme is not for individual travel grants. Conferences should aim to promote networking, collaborations, communication and dissemination of research results. Funding is up to £ 2,000

Applications for Scientific Conference grants can be submitted all year round. The deadline for the Preparatory Clinical Research Fellowship is October 3. For all the other grants the deadline is November 14, 2018.
