Astronomy - Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes

Astronomers can apply for observation time at the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) on La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). Deadline for submitting proposals for observing time in Semester A, (1 February - 31 July) is around 15 September. Applications can be submitted for Dutch observing time for the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) and William Herschel Telescope (WHT) telescopes. The available observing time per semester is approximately 45 nights on the INT, and 45 nights on the WHT, both equally distributed over dark, grey and bright nights.

Ground-based telescopes are important instruments for astronomers to study the universe. These telescopes are often located at remote sites at high altitude to decrease influence of the surroundings and the atmosphere. The ING consists of the 4.2 m WHT and the 2.5 m INT. Since observing time on the telescopes is limited, the available time is allocated to the best research proposals.
