Six researchers receive Spinoza and Stevin Prizes 2018

NWO announced the winners of the Spinoza and the Stevin Prizes for 2018. Professor Anna Akhmanova, professor Marileen Dogterom, professor Carsten de Dreu and professor John van der Oost are awarded with the NWO Spinoza Prize, and professor Beatrice de Graaf and professor Marion Koopmans with the NWO Stevin Prize. Both prizes are the highest awards in Dutch science. Each laureate will receive € 2.5 million, which can be spend on scientific research and activities related to knowledge utilisation.

The NWO Spinoza Prize is a personal award for top researchers with international reputations. NWO requests selected persons to nominate candidates for this prize. A maximum of four prizes are awarded annually. The prize is an honorary award for what the winners have achieved in their scientific career and an encouragement to continue doing excellent research. In essence the prize works as an impulse for scientific research in the Netherlands.

The Stevin Prize, awarded for the first time, is an award for top researchers or a team of two to three researchers with international reputations. NWO requests selected persons to nominate candidates for this prize. A maximum of two prizes are awarded annually.

On September 12, 2018 the prizes will be presented during a special ceremony at the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague. The Spinoza and Stevin laureates will then receive their prize money and present their research as well as their plans for the coming years.
