Call Transitions and Behaviour open for proposals

The NWO call Transitions and Behaviour is open for proposals. Deadline for submitting compulsory pre-proposlas is April 23, 2019. Experienced researchers who hold a PhD can request funding on behalf of a consortium to do research into behaviour and behavioural change in the context of transitions. The budget available is € 8.4 million. Funding is between € 500,000 and € 1 million. Collaboration between at least two researchers and at least one private party is a condition for funding.

The call focuses specifically on research into behaviour and behavioural change that makes transitions possible and accelerates these. As a society, we face a large number of challenges in areas such as mobility, climate change, healthcare and sustainable energy. In tackling these challenges, it is important to strike a balance between technology and society. Besides technological developments, human activity is also a significant determinant in the chances of the necessary transitions succeeding, whereby due consideration must also be given to the possible side effects of changes that can hinder the transition desired.

Therefore the aim of this call is to encourage interdisciplinary research into behaviour and behavioural change in transitions. The research agenda for this programme focuses specifically on the transition issues identified by the various top sectors. For example, the research could focus on questions such as: ‘Which role does the deployment of behavioural change play in making logistics more environmentally friendly?’, or ‘How can entrepreneurs realise more sustainable behaviour in relation to energy?’. In this way, the research will provide a contribution to the societal and economic development of the Netherlands in general and the various participating top sectors in particular.

NWO, ZonMw and the top sectors organise a matchmaking event for the call in The Hague on March 8. There is no entrance fee. Participants can register individually using the registration form.

The deadline for submitting a full proposal is June 25, 2019.
