Joint call NWO and India Urban Water Systems published

NWO-WOTRO and the Indian Government Department of Science & Technology (DST) are jointly opening the call ‘Urban Water Systems: Towards sustainable and integrated urban water management systems in fast-growing secondary cities'. The call addresses the complex challenges to urban water systems faced by fast-growing cities resulting from population growth, rapid urbanisation and the effects of climate change. Deadline for submitting an Expression of Interest is September 10, 2018.

The Dutch budget available for the programme grant is up to € 1.47 million. This will be matched by DST for the Indian part of the research grant.

The call is focused on the need for an integrated systems approach in developing interrelated technological, institutional and financial solutions for sustainable urban water management. It aims to develop a joint Indian-Dutch research programme by means of a Sandpit model. This is an interactive brainstorm workshop, in which a selected group of Indian and Dutch researchers and stakeholders come together in a creative, free-thinking environment - away from their everyday routines and responsibilities - to jointly design the programme. The key objective of the Sandpit is to mobilise researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds and practitioners with various perspectives in order to engender innovative thinking and new approaches for research on integrated urban water systems.

Up to fifteen Dutch and fifteen Indian participants will be identified to take part in the Sandpit workshop. In order to participate, applicants must be available from November 27-30, 2018 for the Sandpit in India.

The deadline for submitting full proposals January 31, 2019.
