The 2018 Work Plan to implement the 3rd Health Programme was adopted on December 13. Its sets out details of the financing mechanisms and priority areas for action. It will be followed through by a single call for proposals for project actions, with four topic priorities, to be launched before the end of January.

The four topic priorities are:

  • Implementation of best practices;
  • Scaling up integrated care;
  • Supporting Member States voluntary cooperation in the area of pricing through the Euripid Collaboration;
  • Orphacodes project

Proposals can be submitted electronically via the Electronic Exchange System of the EU Research & Innovation Participant Portal. Applications from entities established in EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, Serbia, Moldova and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and countries which have a bilateral agreement with the European Union are eligible. Organisations from other countries can only participate as subcontractors or collaborating stakeholders.

The third EU Health Programme 2014 - 2020 is aimed at encouraging innovation in healthcare, increasing the sustainability of health systems, improving the health of EU citizens and protecting them from cross-border health threats. The Health for Growth programme builds on the two previous programmes covering the periods 2003-2008 and 2008-2013. Compared to the former programmes the new one concentrates support on a smaller number of activities in priority areas, in line with the Europe 2020 strategy.
