First call Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights research programme launched

NWO-WOTRO launched the first call for proposals for the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) research programme. This programme aims to generate insights in and a better understanding of processes that determine and strengthen the sexual and reproductive health of people, as well as their ability to claim their sexual and reproductive rights. Deadline for submitting a Letter of Intent is January 5, 2015. The budget for the call is € 4.1 million. The call has been developed in close collaboration with the Knowledge Platform for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Share-Net International, which is initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, and solicits proposals for research to be carried out in Bangladesh or Burundi. The research funded should yield new knowledge and insights and contribute to improving and innovating SRHR policies and practices. Fields of interest, with a specific focus on young people and some key populations, are:

Improved understanding of realities, enabling factors and barriers to SRHR information and services;
Improved access to information and quality health and social services;
Informed choices and decision-making processes related to SRHR.

Funding is to up € 55,000 for a 18-months project, € 340,000 for a 24-months project, € 425,000 for a 30-months project and € 510,000 for a project of 36 months. Consortia consisting of at least two research institutions may apply. One should be from Bangladesh or Burundi/Great Lakes Region and one from across the globe. Extending the consortium with practitioner organisations (e.g. governmental departments, NGOs, private enterprises, including international organisations) is welcomed.

Only after submitting such a Letter of Intent, consortia can submit a proposal. The deadline for submitting a proposal is February 3, 2015.
