Four new projects awarded in NWO Open Programme ALW

The division of Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) of NWO has funded four new projects with a grant from the Open Programme. The Open Programme wants to be a breeding ground for innovation and talent. Proposals are not related to a theme or ambition. The programme aims to promote innovative scientific research of a high quality across the entire breadth of the earth and life sciences. 
Applications can be submitted at any time. The budget is € 8 million per year.The awarded projects are the following:

Control of cytoskeletal organization and cell movement by microtubule minus-end binding proteins - Prof. dr. A.S. Akhmanova, UU;
Understanding how bacteria cells measure their own growth rate - Dr. G.E. Bokinsky, TUD;
Single-cell quantifications of genome-nuclear lamina interactions during cellular differentiation - Dr. J.H. Kind, Hubrecht laboratorium;
A mother's sacrifice: asymmetric inheritance of ageing factors - Dr. L.M. Veenhoff, UMCG.
