National Ataxia Foundation - funding opportunities 2016

The National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) is funding research projects relevant to hereditary and sporadic types of ataxia in both basic and translational research. The Foundation invites applications for its funding schemes for projects to be starting in 2016. Deadlines are between July 15, 2015 and August 17, 2015. NAF invites research applications from U.S.A. and international non-profit and for-profit institutions. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

The following funding schemes are available:

Research Grant: Deadline for submitting a Letter of Intent is July 15, 2015. NAF research grants are for new and innovative studies that are relevant to the cause, pathogenesis or treatment of the hereditary or sporadic ataxias. The grants are offered primarily as “seed monies” to assist investigators in the early or pilot phase of their studies and as additional support for ongoing investigations on demonstration of need. The average funds granted will be up to $ 15,000 but promising proposals up to $ 30,000 will be considered. Grants are awarded for one year only. If funding for a second year is desired then another grant application should be submitted for that funding period;
Young Investigator Awards: Letters of Intent must be submitted on or before August 3, 2015. There are two types of awards. The Young Investigator Award: one-year grant of $ 35,000 given to encourage young investigators to pursue a career in the field of ataxia research and the Young Investigator Award for SCA Research: one-year grant of $ 50,000 given to encourage young investigators to pursue a career in spinocerebellar ataxia research;
Research Post-Doc Fellowship Award: Letters of Intent must be submitted on or before August 17, 2015. The Research Post-Doc Fellowship Award is a one-year grant up to $ 35,000. A Fellowship Award is to serve as a bridge from post-doctoral positions to junior faculty positions;
Pioneer SCA Translational Research Award. Letters of Intent must be submitted on or before August 17, 2015. The Research Award is a one-year grant of $ 100,000 focusing on research investigations that will facilitate the development of treatments for the Spinocerebellar Ataxias.
