NWO Vidi 2017 open
NWO invites applications for the Vidi-call within the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (Vernieuwingsimpuls). Deadline for submitting proposals is October 5, 2017. This form of grant is targeted at researchers who have completed their doctorates and already spent some years conducting post-doctoral research, thereby demonstrating the ability to generate new ideas and bring them independently to fruition. Each researcher receives € 800,000 for a period of five years.
The Innovational Research Incentives Scheme Veni, Vidi, Vici has been set up in 2000 by NWO, KNAW and the universities jointly. The aim is to promote innovation in the academic research field. The scheme is directed at providing encouragement for individual researchers and gives talented, creative researchers the opportunity to conduct their own research programme independently and promote talented researchers to enter and remain committed to the scientific profession.
With effect from this round, NWO is making a change to the extension regulation for the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme. This concerns the compensation for a reduction in work time due to parental leave for male researchers. From now on, male researchers can request an extension for parental leave taken after their PhD, irrespective of when the children were born. Furthermore, a distinction is no longer made between children under the age of four years and children above the age of four years.
Previously fathers were only compensated for parental leave for children born after their PhD and only 50% of the parental leave time was compensated for children aged 4 to 12 years. NWO encourages researchers who are fathers and who have taken parental leave after their PhD to request an extension (anew or for the first time).
