Diabetes - call Innovate2CureType1 open

The Dutch health organisations the Diabetes Research Foundation Netherlands (Stichting Diabetesonderzoek Nederland) and the Dutch Diabetes Research Foundation (Diabetes Fonds) are joining forces to stop type 1 diabetes with the programme Innovate2CureType1. Deadline for submitting applications is March 5, 2018. The foundations aim to finance one research proposal of up to € 1,500,000 for a maximum of 5 years.

The international programme Innovate2Curetype1 aims to encourage scientists to think outside the box, to initiate (new) international collaborations, and to come up with innovative basic research ideas that have the potential to ultimately prevent or cure and thus change the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. The research must be focused on working towards the patient. Researchers working for an academic center, university or non-profit research institute in the following countries may apply: all European countries, Japan, India, Australia, South-Korea, Israel, Canada, Brazil and China.

Possible themes are (not limited to):

  • Beta cell regeneration;
  • Beta cell replacement (islet transplantation, encapsulation, stem cells);
  • Immunotherapy;
  • Prevention of type 1 diabetes;
  • Delay onset of type 1 diabetes;
  • Prevention of loss of beta cells.
