Call JTI Biobased Industries 2018 launched
The Joint Undertaking on Bio-based Industries (BBI) has launched the 2018 call for proposals Bio Based Industries PPP. Deadline for submitting applications is September 6, 2018. The call with identifier H2020-BBI-JTI-2018 has a total budget of € 115,000,000. There are 21 topics that can be funded: eight Research & Innovation Actions (RIAs), five Demonstration Actions (DEMOs), two Flagship actions (FLAGs), and three Coordination & Support Actions (CSAs).
The 2018 call is the fifth in a total of seven calls that will be published between 2014 and 2020. There are four strategic orientations, namely Feedstock, Process, Products, and Market uptake. More information can be found at the Participant Portal under the programme Horizon 2020.
As part of the panel review, hearings will be organised for all submitted flagship proposals, as established in BBI JU’s Annual Work Plan 2018 to:
- clarify the proposals and help the panel establish their final assessment and scores; or
- improve the experts’ understanding of the proposals.
Invitations to hearings will be sent to the flagship coordinators with all the relevant details during September.
According to the evaluation criteria for Innovation Actions (IA) and more specifically in the context of criterion ‘Quality and efficiency of the implementation’, the experts could request additional technical explanations/clarifications for the two following evaluation sub-criteria:
- Soundness of the business case and business plan;
- Readiness of the technology for the implementation of the pilot phase, demonstration or flagship (TRL). Applicants should demonstrate the readiness of the technology for the implementation of the pilot phase. In particular, for flagships applicants must demonstrate that by the time of the submission of their application they have been operating relative demonstration scale plants at a significant production capacity.
Hearings will not be used to permit modifications to proposals.
The Joint Undertaking on BBI is a public-private partnership aiming at increasing investment in the development of a sustainable bio-based industry sector in Europe. It aims at providing environmental and socio-economic benefits for European citizens, increasing the competitiveness of Europe and contributing to establishing Europe as a key player in research, demonstration and deployment of advanced bio-based products and biofuels. The BBI Joint Undertaking will also play an important role in achieving a bioeconomy in Europe.
