European and Chinese projects awarded for research on Green Economy and Understanding Population Change

L'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC UK), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC China) and NWO Social Sciences have funded € 8.9 million to eight projects for collaborative projects between European and Chinese researchers in the areas of 'The Green Economy' and 'Understanding Population Change'. Dutch researchers participate in four of the awarded projects. The funding allows academics in Europe and China to collaborate on a range of exciting projects that will push the boundaries of our understanding of individual and social behaviour and influence policy. The projects are the following:

Life Course and Family Dynamics in a Comparative Perspective;
Smart eco-cities for a green economy: a comparative study of Europe and China;
Immigration and the Transformation of Chinese Society;
SINCERE (Sino-European Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency);
"Bright Futures": A Comparative Study of Internal and International Mobility of Chinese Higher Education Students;
Migration and the Reshaping of Consumption Patterns;
Dynamics of Green Growth in European and Chinese Cities (DRAGON);
Optimising care delivery models to support ageing-in-place: towards autonomy, affordability and financial sustainability.

The program is based on the principles of the Open Research Area for Social Sciences (ORA). ORA funds joint research projects in the social sciences in The Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Project teams have to include partners in at least two of the participating countries. The fourth call is currently open. Deadline of submission is January 15, 2015.
