JPI Climate call AXIS open for pre-proposals
The ERA-NET Cofund Call Assessment of Cross(X)-sectoral climate Impacts and pathways for Sustainable transformation (AXIS) of JPI Climate is open for pre-proposals. NWO participates in this joint transnational call, which is supported by 10 funding organisations from 9 European countries and co-fund support of the European Commission. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is June 18, 2018. The Dutch budget is € 975,000 and funding is up to € 250,000 per project.
The call aims to promote cross-boundary, cross-community research with the overall goal to improve coherence, integration and robustness of climate impact research and connect it to societal needs. Dutch researchers with a doctorate and an appointment, at least for the duration of the project, at a Dutch university or a research institute, can apply for funding as part of an international project with researchers from at least two other participating countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Spain and Sweden. For the Dutch projects, the consortium must consist of researchers from the biophysical sciences, social sciences and humanities.
A two-step application procedure is used in this call. Submitted proposals are assessed by an independent international Expert Panel, consisting of experts from the scientific community and representatives of relevant stakeholder groups. Final selection will depend first on the overall score reached in the evaluation, second on funding availability. The accredited Board within NWO will make the final decision on which Dutch proposals will be awarded.
The AXIS joint call is structured into three interlinked themes:
- Cross-sectoral and cross-scale climate change impact assessments;
- Integration of biophysical climate change impact estimates with economic models;
- Developing pathways to achieve the long-term objectives of the Paris Agreement, taking into account interactions with SDGs closely linked to SDG 13 (“climate action”).
