Neurodegenerative diseases - JPND call for multi-national research projects on health social care for neurodegenerative launched

The EU Joint Programme - Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) launched a joint transnational call to support health and social care research and innovation. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is March 6, 2018. For The Netherlands, ZonMw participates in the context of the research and innovation programme Memorable. The total budget available from all participating countries is € 21 million. The Dutch contribution is € 1 million, of which between three and six groups will be funded.

The aim of the call is to establish a limited number of ambitious, innovative, multi-national and multi-disciplinary collaborative research projects that address health and social care delivery at the macro level (system and infrastructures) as well as (at) the individual level of patients, their careers and families. Evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of formal and informal care approaches and existing infrastructures is a prelude to implementing improved, evidence-based approaches and thereby improving the quality of life for those affected by neurodegenerative diseases and the quality of care.

The neurodegenerative diseases included in the call are Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease and PD-related disorders, prion diseases, motor neuron diseases, Huntington’s disease, spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

Projects can be funded for a period of up to three years. Joint transnational research proposals may be submitted by research groups working in universities (or other higher education institutions), non-university public research institutes, hospitals and other health care settings, as well as commercial companies, in particular small and medium-size enterprises.
