Medical and health research - Lasker Awards 2019
The Lasker Foundation accepts nominations for the 2019 Lasker Awards. Deadline for submissions is February 4, 2019. The Lasker Foundation's Awards Program recognizes and honours individuals who have made significant contributions in basic or clinical research to address diseases that are the main cause of death and disability. The Award winners may reside in any country of the world.
The Lasker Awards will be offered in three categories in 2016: Basic Medical Research, Clinical Medical Research, and Public Service Award. The Special Achievement in Medical Science, presented every other year, will next be given in 2020.
- The Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award honors scientists who have made fundamental investigations that open new areas of biomedical science;
- The Lasker~DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award honors scientists whose contributions, directly or indirectly, have led in a pioneering way to a major improvement in the clinical management or treatment of patients;
- The Lasker~Koshland Special Achievement Award in Medical Science honors scientists whose contributions to research and scientific statesmanship are of unique magnitude, and whose professional career has engendered within the biomedical community the deepest feelings of awe and respect;
- The Lasker~Bloomberg Public Service Award honors exceptional individuals or organizations whose work has profoundly improved the health of the public. The Award will be conferred on a winner selected from among public health professionals, policy makers, scientists, journalists, government leaders, and advocates. The Lasker Foundation welcomes nominations in global health, domestic health, or both.
Each award consists of an honorarium, a citation and an inscribed statuette of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, symbolizing victory over death and disease.
