ZonMw: First joint call ERANET on Systems Biology Applications launched

ZonMw and NWO Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) participate in the first joint call ERANET on Systems Biology Applications (ERASysAPP). Deadline of submissions is January 31, 2014. The main objective of this call is to generate transnational collaboration for research and development on systems biology in the European Research Area, with a particular focus on application-oriented and/or industry-relevant systems biology research. The call focuses on applied systems biology research on microorganisms, plants and animals within the area of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, thereby stimulating the Knowledge Based Bio-economy (KBBE) in Europe. Health and medical research will be accepted as long as the focus of the research is on the solution/answer to a biological question.

ZonMw, which is the National Call Secretariat for this call, and NWO ALW encourage the Dutch systems biology research community to apply for funding for collaborative research in the European Research Area. NWO-ALW aims to fund two projects related to plants, animals and/or microorganisms. ZonMw aims to fund one project related to plants, animals and/or microorganisms, as long as the focus of the project is clearly on research on and/or implementation of alternatives to animal testing (3R).

The total budget for this call is € 705,000. Per project proposal the budget is up to € 230,000. Each application in which a Dutch group is applying, must be a public-private partnership, which may consist of one or several national public partner(s) plus one or several (inter)national private partner(s). The private partner(s) in the consortium must provide matched funding. This may be in kind and/or in cash. The contribution from the private partner(s) is at least 15% of the total funds that the public partners have applied for.
