'Towards a sustainable bio-based society: aligning scientific, cultural and societal agendas for bio-innovation society', Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Event date:
2012-12-06 A conference entitled 'Towards a sustainable bio-based society: aligning scientific, cultural and societal agendas for bio-innovation society' will take place from 6 to 7 December 2012 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Probably one of today's biggest challenges, the creation of a sustainable bio-based economy is often referred to as a "second" industrial revolution and a "greening" of industry, entailing a plethora of promises as well as concerns. Scientific, political and industrial agendas are redefined in light of these challenges and prospects, with most attention being focused on emerging bio-based economies and industries that aim to develop more sustainable forms of energy, food, and bio-based renewable materials.
The conference will bring together experts from academia, industry and politics with an interest in life sciences, social sciences and humanities. Together they will deliberate a common agenda for research, a debate which will serve as a kick-off for the ESF Conference Series devoted to this topic.
