Thalassaemia - Cooley's Anemia Foundation 2013-2014 ($ 60,000 p/y)

Cooley's Anemia Foundation is accepting applications for its 2013-2014 Fellowship and Research Grant programmes. Deadline for submitting applications is February 4, 2013. Medical researchers who are interested in initiating a thalassemia-related project or who have an existing project that requries additional funding may apply for the following programmes:

• Medical Fellowship program: limited to a maximum of $ 32,500 per year. Awards are for a one-year period, beginning July 1, 2013 and running through June 30, 2014 and are renewable for a second year upon application and consideration of progress made in the first year and the research plan for the second year;
• Support for Ongoing Clinical Research in Thalassemia Grants: $ 40,000 annually with possibility of one-year renewal upon submission of a renewal application. Interested individuals are invited to submit a brief letter of intent by January 18, 2013;
• Clinical Trials in Thalassemia Cell and Gene Therapy Grants: up to $ 60,000 per year will be available (including indirect costs of 8%). With satisfactory evidence of progress and availability of funding grants may be renewed for a second year.

The Cooley's Anemia Foundation is dedicated to serving people afflicted with various forms of thalassemia, most notably the major form of this genetic blood disease, Cooley's anemia/thalassemia major. Its mission is advancing the treatment and cure for this fatal blood disease, enhancing the quality of life of patients and educating the medical profession, trait carriers and the public about Cooley's anemia/thalassemia major.
