NWO call Value from Biomass open for proposals

NWO invites applications from multidisciplinary consortia of academic researchers and companies for the call Value from Biomass. Deadline for submitting proposals is June 13, 2019. The call focuses on the transition from an economy based on fossil resources to an economy that runs on sustainable alternatives. The aim is to fund groundbreaking (fundamental) research that can provide socially relevant and responsible innovations in the field of biomass conversion.

Project proposals should address both molecular and technological challenges and the social aspects of the biomass value chain. The NWO approach to Responsible Innovation (NWO-MVI) must be included in all proposals.

The main applicant is a researcher employed by a Dutch university or a research institute recognised by NWO. He or she represents a public-private consortium of at least one knowledge institute and one company. A consortium consists of at least two applicants with complementary expertise within the Exact and Natural Sciences Domain (ENW) and the Social Sciences & Humanities Domain (SGW).

The budget available is € 2,790,000, intended for projects with a duration of up to six years that will be realised by knowledge institutions in collaboration with private partners. The private partners will have to contribute at least 30% of the project budget needed. The maximum contribution of NWO is € 630,000.
