Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute - Short-term Fellowships 2015

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) invites applications for its Short-Term Fellowship programme, which includes the Grupo Adelante, the Ernst Mayr Fellowship and the A. Stanley Rand Fellowship. Upcoming deadline is October 15, 2015. The fellowships may provide currently $ 800/month to cover living expenses while at STRI, a modest research allowance that rarely exceeds $ 2,000, and roundtrip coach airfare.

The maximum duration of projects is 3 months. Although focused primarily on graduate students, awards are occasionally given to undergraduate and postdoctoral candidates. These fellowships enable selected candidates to work in the tropics and explore research possibilities at STRI.

The STRI is a division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and maintains research facilities for marine and terrestrial research at various locations on the Isthmus of Panama. STRI offers fellowships for undergraduate, predoctoral and postdoctoral research in the areas represented by its scientific staff. Disciplines include ecology, anthropology, paleontology, paleoecology, evolutionary biology, molecular phylogenetics, biogeography, animal behavior, neurobiology, soils sciences, and physiology of tropical plants and animals.
