Calls from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is a virtual organisation that has been established by the Department of Health to deliver the Government's R&D strategy 'Best Research for Best Health'. The strategy sets out the direction for NHS research that will build a vibrant and world-class research environment in England. NIHR has published a number of new calls.

The goal of the NIHR is to create a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding individuals, working in world class facilities, conducting leading edge research focused on the needs of patients and the public.The NHS reputation for international excellence is growing as it gains recognition for being the preferred host for collaborative and multi-centred research in the public interest in partnership with and for industry. This will benefit patients, society, the NHS and all stakeholders.

These are the latest calls for proposals:
• (new) Health Innovation Challenge Fund - Round 10: Preliminary Application Closing Date: 15th September 2014;
• (new) Research for Patient Benefit Programme - invitation for applications: The closing date for applications is 17 September 2014 at 13:00;
• Health Services and Delivery Programme - Research-led applications invited: The deadline for applications is 1pm, 25 September 2014;
• Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Programme - invitation for applications:
- 14/142 - Mechanisms of action of health interventions: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,
- 14/144 - Bowel control and faecal incontinence in adults: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,
- 14/145 - Pituitary and/or adrenal disorders and related diseases: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,
- 14/146 - Renal failure resulting from intrinsic renal diseases: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,
- 14/147 - Wound healing: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,
- 14/152 - Major trauma: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 8 September 2014;
• Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme - Commissioned call:
- 14/142 - Mechanisms of action of health interventions: the deadline for applications is 1pm, 7 October 2014,

• Programme Grants for Applied Research - applications invited: The closing date for applications is 7 October 2014 at 13:00;
• Programme Development Grants - Invitation for applications: The closing date for applications is 14 October 2014 at 13:00;
• (new) Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Programme - invitation for applications: The EME Programme is accepting applications to its researcher-led workstream. Applicants are invited to apply by 1pm on 30 October 2014;
• (new) Public Health Research Programme - Researcher-led call: The deadline for applications is 1pm, 11 December 2014;
• (new) Public Health Research Programme - Commissioned call: The deadline for applications is 1pm, 18 December 2014;
• (new) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme - Commissioned calls: Deadlines for commissioning briefs are 1pm, 16 September 2014 and 1pm, 18 December 2014.
