Washing circular has never been so easy

Onne Sypkens & Sijmen Verveer | 16-12-2020

We use an average of 133 liters of clean drinking water per person per day, which almost immediately disappears into the sewer after use. This is not only harmful to the environment, but it also costs a lot of money. With various subsidies, Hydraloop develops a self-cleaning water recycling system: the water from the bath, shower and optional washing machine is purified and reused. Hydraloop recently received no less than four prizes at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Overcome drought comfortably
Saving water is becoming increasingly important worldwide. Current ways to save water are, for example, shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and purchasing a water-saving washing machine. However, the impact of this is limited and because such measures limit comfort, a breakthrough often fails. The Hydraloop enables the reuse of waste water and the residual heat in this water without disadvantages in living comfort, which means that an average household can save 45% on water, 45% on waste water and 6% on CO2 emissions plus reducing heating costs. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has supported these Hydraloop benefits through the programme Partners for Water and WBSO. Hydraloop also received a subsidy from the Green Innovation Fund in Leeuwarden for a successful test in 10 households.

Best of the best
The development of the 6 cleaning steps in the Hydraloop are patented. Filters are not used for purification, which means that the system has a very long maintenance interval. The innovative recycling system has also received a lot of international recognition. Hydraloop was chosen as one of 50 most innovative tech companies to join the Dutch mission of Techleap.nl led by State Secretary Mona Keijzer and Prince Constantijn to the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Here Hydraloop has won four prizes! The Hydraloop has won "Best of Innovation" in the category "Sustainability, Eco-design & Smart Energy", and also received "best startup", "best sustainable product" and even the overall prize "best of the best".
